Watershed Conditions Statement – Flood Outlook

Pleased be advised that Otonabee Conservation has issued a Watershed Conditions Statement – Flood Outlook for the entire watershed region effective immediately.

This message is being issued to raise awareness about weather forecasts for heavy rain, and that a change in conditions on local waterways is possible.

Otonabee  Conservation advises that conditions are ideal this afternoon and evening for the development of severe thunderstorms. The main threat is torrential downpours producing 50 to 100mm of rain in one to two hours.

Intense rainfall associated with these thunderstorms may result in flooding and/or ponding of low lying areas. All watercourses in our area may experience higher than normal water levels. As a result, local streams and rivers will become dangerous, especially in the vicinity of culverts and bridges.

Otonabee  Conservation is advising area residents to keep away from all watercourses, water conveyance structures ( e.g., dams, culverts and bridges) and to stay clear of accumulating and ponding.

This WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT – FLOOD OUTLOOK message will be in effect through Wednesday July 25, 2018.
