ISSUED TO: Municipalities of Selwyn, Douro-Dummer, Asphodel-Norwood, Otonabee-South Monaghan, Cavan Monaghan, City of Kawartha Lakes, City of Peterborough and Trent Hills, and Otonabee Conservation’s other partners in flood emergency management.
A Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety is issued when high flows, ice or other factors could be dangerous, but flooding is not expected.
Weather Forecasts – A series of low pressure systems will cross southern Ontario over the next 4 days, bringing periods of rain, showers and thunderstorms. The forecasted rainfall accumulations over the next 4 days range from 50 to 70mm with higher amounts due to thunderstorms.
Wednesday evening through Thursday morning the rainfall accumulations are in the range of 15 to 25mm with the potential of an additional 50mm due to thunderstorms.
Thursday rainfall accumulations are in the range of 5 to 10mm.
The remnants of Tropical Storm Laura may affect our region on Friday and Saturday bringing additional rainfall and potential thunderstorms. The rainfall accumulations are in the range of 15 to 25mm.
WATERSHED RISK – The forecasted rainfall will result in elevated water levels and flows in all rivers, streams and creeks over the next few days. The elevated water levels, flows and slippery banks make our local rivers, streams and creeks more dangerous than normal, especially in the vicinity of water conveyance structures such as dams, culverts and bridges. Water accumulation and ponding on roads, intersections and low lying areas is possible. Flooding is not anticipated.
Otonabee Conservation advises area residents to keep away from all rivers, streams and creeks and water conveyance structures (e.g., dams, culverts and bridges), to stay clear of areas where water can be seen to be accumulating and ponding.
This WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT will remain in effect until Monday, August 31, 2020.
