Update on services and trail access for the 2021 May long weekend
Peterborough, Ontario (May 20, 2021) Many residents will be looking for places to get outside and find access to nature this May long weekend. During the pandemic, Otonabee Conservation is continuing to provide access to trails and Conservation Areas (CA), which are currently available to the public for hiking, walking, birdwatching, and biking. These areas continue to be accessible for residents with the public’s help following physical distancing guidelines and by only partaking in permitted activities while visiting our properties.
With the extension of the provincial stay-at-home order, we will be delaying the opening of our campgrounds at Warsaw Caves CA and Beavermead Campground until June 11, 2021. Complete refunds will be provided for those holding a reservation up to and including the evening of June 10th.
Warsaw Caves CA’s gatehouse will be open weekends only starting May 22, 2021, for paid day use. Visitors can enjoy the trails with walkthrough access and physical distancing with members of their household. The gates will remain open Mon-Fri for free day use access. The Caves and The Caves Trail are closed as we are unable to ensure proper distancing. All other trails are available. Please visit otonabeeconservation.com for day use fees at Warsaw Caves CA.
Visitors should also know that trail maintenance is limited and that our picnic shelters and washroom facilities are closed with an exception of the Warsaw Caves CA day use area washroom. Boat launches and beaches are open with physical distancing.
Visitors must also keep dogs leashed at all times, pack out their own garbage, and remain physically distanced from those outside their household. We do not allow ATVs or campfires on our properties. Visitors are also asked to park only in designated lots and should not park on roadways. If visitors arrive at a Conservation Area and the parking lot is full, we ask that they move on to another location. Access our ‘Map App’ to discover a number of CAs nearby in our watershed.
