Otonabee Conservation, in partnership with Tree Canada, Siemens Canada Limited and the County of Peterborough planted 30 native trees at Lang Pioneer Village Museum.
“The trees selected for this planting will help tell the story of how 19th century settlers to rural Ontario depended on trees as an important source for food and building materials. In addition, the newly planted trees will enhance wildlife habitat at the village and provide shade for visitors to the living history museum,” explained Laurie Siblock, Manager, Lang Pioneer Village. The species planted included Tamarack, Hackberry, Swamp White Oak, Bitternut Hickory and Silver Maple.
“The day was a great success,” stated Elyse Sawdon, EH&S Specialist, Siemens Canada Limited. “Siemens staff did an amazing job, which speaks well of their commitment to improving our local environment and partnership involvement for the advancement of local conservation efforts.”
This project demonstrates the commitment made by Siemens Canada, Tree Canada, the County of Peterborough and Otonabee Conservation to make every day Earth Day.
