Nine new trees were planted at Victoria Park to help secure the health and succession of the urban forest in Peterborough, Ontario
Today, nine trees were planted at Victoria Park including Red Oak, Bur Oak, Sugar Maple, and White Pine. Native species of trees were chosen to increase the diversity of the urban forest and enhance habitat.
“Victoria Park is a landmark park in the City of Peterborough and is owned by the County of Peterborough,” shared Peterborough County Warden J. Murray Jones, “The health of our environment and community is very important, and we are excited to be part of this project.”
Michael Papadacos, the Infrastructure Manager at the City of Peterborough, states, “This project will help to secure the health and succession of the urban forest and ensure that new trees are established in the park as the mature trees start to decline”
This tree planting project was made possible with generous funding from Tree Canada and U-Haul.

Tree Canada is the only national non-profit organization dedicated to planting and nurturing trees in rural and urban environments. Through their programs, research, and engagement efforts, they have helped restore tree cover in areas hit by natural disasters, guided communities in managing their urban forests, and supported over 700 schoolyard greening projects. To date, with their community partners and sponsors such as Otonabee Conservation and U-Haul, they have planted more than 83 million trees.
