Do you live in the area of the Hope Mill Dam Reservoir?
The water level will be temporarily lowered in the reservoir of the Hope Mill Dam located at 3414 Hope Mill Road in the Township of Otonabee – South Monaghan.
Two stoplogs will be removed from each bay to lower the water in the headpond. It is anticipated that this will reduce the water level by approximately 0.5 metre.
Why are the water levels being lowered?
Lowering the reservoir’s water level is required to facilitate repairs to the dam, enhancing its stability, integrity, and safety.
When will the levels be lowered and for how long?
Friday, August 20 – Monday, September 20, 2021
Beginning on Friday, August 20, the reservoir will slowly be drawn down.
Immediately following drawdown the dam will undergo necessary repairs.
During the week of September 13, water levels in the reservoir will gradually be restored, sustaining downstream flow throughout the process by the expected completion date, Monday, September 20.
How will this affect me?
Water levels will be reduced in the headpond by approximately 0.5 metre.
You may wish to adjust water intakes, docks, boats, or other water-based infrastructure that will be affected by lowered water levels.
Work will be completed in accordance with authorization provided under the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry’s Lakes and Rivers Improvement Act and the Conservation Authority Act’s Ontario Regulation 167/06 – Development, Interference with Wetlands and Alterations to Shorelines and Watercourses.
