Hiking

Throughout the Otonabee Region watershed, and indeed within the municipalities of the County of Peterborough and City of Peterborough, we are fortunate to have an extensive trail system for hiking and walking. Trails provide an open, safe space for recreation, education and physical activity, and a place where the landscape is preserved.

Where to hike on Otonabee Conservation lands:

Warsaw Caves Conservation Area

At the Warsaw Caves Conservation Area and Campground you will find close to 15 km of trail that meanders through forests and across open limestone plains. From the scenic lookout, you can view the Indian River valley and along the trail see potholes and kettles and hear the sounds of the disappearing river. Be sure to download the trail map to guide you on your way to exploration!

Harold Town Conservation Area

There is an extensive network of mountain biking trails at the Harold Town Conservation Area which are also enjoyed by walkers, and runners ~ trail etiquette is appreciated!

Selwyn Beach Conservation Area

For the hiker who enjoys seeing a diversity of habitat along the journey, Selwyn Beach Conservation Area is wonderful!

Jackson Creek Trail

The Jackson Creek Trail is a 4.5 kilometer multi-use trail along a former rail bed. It features an accessible trail bed with nature viewing opportunities that are enjoyed year-round. The Jackson Creek Trail is a section of The Trans Canada Trail, which links to the Kawartha Trans Canada Trail in the west and Peterborough Trans Canada Trail in the South-east.

Beavermead Campground

The City of Peterborough and surrounding area has numerous multi-use linked trails for your enjoyment. The Rotary Greenway Trail starts at Beavermead Park and connects you to the rest of the trails system. The Peterborough and Kawarthas countryside is rich and varied and the trails allow a great way to experience it. Include hiking or biking into your holiday recreation plans!
