Millbrook Dam Ribbon Cutting Event – Otonabee Region Conservation Authority

Otonabee Conservation hosts celebratory ribbon-cutting event for Millbrook Dam on November 1, 2019

Otonabee Conservation, along with delegates from Provincial and Municipal governments, community members, local interest groups, project engineers and contractors celebrated the completion of the Millbrook Dam rehabilitation project with a ribbon-cutting event on November 1, 2019, 10 a.m. at the Millbrook Dam and Needler’s Mill.

MPP Laurie Scott, Mayor of Cavan-Monaghan Scott McFadden, Councillor Ryan Huntley, MP Jamie Schmale, and Otonabee Conservation Chair, Andy Mitchell cut the ribbon at the opening of the Millbrook Dam in Millbrook, ON.

We are grateful for funding contributed by the governments of Canada and Ontario through the Small Communities Fund, and for the generous contributions from our member municipalities.

“I am proud of our joint federal and provincial government’s investment of more than $2.2 million to rehabilitate the Millbrook Dam,” said Ernie Hardeman, Minster of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, “This important work will help ensure that local residents and businesses in the Village of Millbrook will see increased protection from flooding and furthers our commitment to supporting rural Ontario.”

A ceremonial tree planting was held after the Millbrook Dam ribbon cutting event to celebrate Otonabee Conservation’s 60th Anniversary (Left to Right) Deputy Mayor for Cavan Monaghan Matthew Graham, Councillor Ryan Huntley, Otonabee Conservation Chair Andy Mitchell, Mayor Scott McFadden, MP Jamie Schmale, Otonabee Conservation Vice Chair Sherry Senis, MP Laurie Scott, and Millbrook Resident, Dave Brackenridge

“It’s great to celebrate the completion of the Millbrook Dam rehabilitation project. This preservation of history will be rewarding for our area now and for generations to come. I would like to thank the Otonabee Conservation for overseeing this project and the many hands it took to complete it,” said MPP of Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock, Laurie Scott, “It’s motivating to see infrastructure at work to protect our heritage and our communities.”

“The Millbrook Dam is a cultural landmark in this community,” said the Mayor of Cavan-Monaghan Township, Scott McFadden, “Its restoration preserves a significant piece of our history and restores a natural space that has been, and will be, enjoyed by both residents and visitors of the Township.”

The rehabilitation of Millbrook Dam began in January 2018. It has included the replacement of the spillway and the reconstruction of the earthen berm surrounding the Dam. Andy Mitchell, Chair of the Otonabee Conservation Board of Directors, shared, “This project has taken many years to come to fruition and we would like to thank everyone who made a contribution to the success of the project.”
