Official Response Issued to the Province in Letter to Minister Yurek

This morning, Otonabee Conservation Board Chair, Andy Mitchell issued a letter in response to Jeff Yurek, Minister of  Environment, Conservation, and Parks’ letter sent to CAs on August 16, 2019. Minister Yurek’s letter pre-emptively asked Conservation Authorities to start winding down services and programs that potentially fall outside the scope of CA core mandates.

The Otonabee Conservation Board of Directors held a special board meeting on August 28th to consider the content of Minister Yurek’s letter. At this time, the board believes that it is premature to make any substantive decisions about winding down programs and services.

Otonabee Conservation Staff have been directed to prepare a responsible budget to deal with the known financial pressures.
