Free Admission to Selwyn Beach Conservation Area

Otonabee Conservation has removed the visitor entrance fee for the Selwyn Beach Conservation Area. Effective immediately, day visitors will no longer be required to pay the day use entrance fee to enjoy the conservation area.

“Visitors to the Selwyn Beach Conservation Area will have access to the sandy beach for swimming (unsupervised), the boat launch and docking area, hiking trails and open greenspace,” explains Jessie James, Manager, Conservation Lands Program for Otonabee Conservation. “The area is also popular for organized group camping and picnics as well as special events, for which a permit and fee will continue to be required.”

Located on the shores of Chemong Lake, the Selwyn Beach Conservation Area is one of the largest properties of undeveloped waterfront in the area. It was acquired by the conservation authority in 1973 to ensure that the waterfront would remain available for public use and to ensure the protection of the natural features and flora and fauna of the area.

James points out that property management and regulations enforcement will continue, but that visitor services will be limited. Day use visitors are encouraged to follow these rules for their enjoyment and protection of the area’s natural features:

  • Stay on marked hiking trails.
  • Do not disturb the wildlife.
  • Use the garbage bins provided and be sure to take any supplies you bring to the area, home with you.
  • Dogs must be on a leash of two metres or less. Please clean up after them. There are no leash- free zones on the property.

The Selwyn Beach Conservation Area is located at 2251 Birch Island Road in the Township of Selwyn.

Information about the conservation area is available on the Selwyn Beach Conservation Area webpage.
