Message # 2023-06
Issued: 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 07, 2023 Subject: CANCELLED FLOOD WATCH – Issued for Otonabee
River and Local Watercourses.
Issued to: Municipalities of Selwyn, Douro-Dummer, Asphodel-Norwood, Otonabee-South Monaghan, Cavan Monaghan, City of Kawartha Lakes, City of Peterborough and Trent Hills, and ORCA’s other partners
in flood emergency management.
This FLOOD WATCH is issued to alert municipalities, residents, and businesses that floods are
possible.
Conditions Along the Otonabee River
The conditions that warranted the original Flood Watch issued on January 5, 2023, for the Otonabee
River and Local Watercourses regarding increased flows, water levels and conditions for frazil ice
formation no longer exist.
Otonabee Conservation is cancelling the Flood Watch for the Otonabee River and Local Watercourses.
While water levels and flows are on the decline, residents and visitors are nonetheless reminded to
exercise extreme caution on and around the water because water is an extremely powerful force that
should never be underestimated. Caregivers are reminded that children and pets should not be
allowed to approach the edge of waterbodies/watercourses. KEEP S.A.F.E. – Stay Away From Edges of
riverbanks/lakeshores as they will be slippery and the banks may collapse because they are
undercut.
Water levels can be monitored on-line at:
1) Trent-Severn Waterway’s Water Management InfoNet
2) Water Survey of Canada Real-Time Hydrometric Data
3) Otonabee Region Conservation Authority website
This FLOOD WATCH message first issued January 5, 2023, is CANCELLED effective immediately.
