Please be advised that Otonabee Conservation has issued an update to the FLOOD WARNING for all watercourses / waterbodies in the geographical jurisdiction of the Otonabee Region Conservation Authority (ORCA).
This is an update to the FLOOD WARNING that was first issued Saturday April 14.
A FLOOD WARNING is issued when flooding is imminent or occurring (for details, see text below).
WEATHER FORECAST:
In both the Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton Lakes regions, the forecast for the next 5 days has minimal precipitation, light winds and a mixture of sun & clouds. Air temperatures will roller coaster above and below seasonal in both the Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton Lakes regions.
OUSE RIVER, INDIAN RIVER, and TRIBUTARIES of the KAWARTHA LAKES and OTONABEE RIVER:
Our region received between 20 to 30mm of rainfall over the past two days. The rainfall over saturated ground conditions generated significant runoff into local rivers, streams, creeks and waterbodies. Water levels and flows increased accordingly.
With dryer conditions, the water levels in the local rivers, streams, creeks and waterbodies will begin to recede over the next couple of days. Due to saturated ground conditions, pooling & ponding water in low lying areas (with poor drainage) will remain.
KAWARTHA LAKES, OTONABEE RIVER, and RICE LAKE:
With the rain on snow event over the past 2 days through the Haliburton area and upper Kawarthas, water levels and flows are continuing to rising in northern rivers and lakes. Inflows to the Kawartha Lakes from the north are expected to increase over the next several days. Water levels on the Kawartha Lakes will continue to rise. As a result, the outflow from the Kawartha Lakes through the Otonabee River, will also increase, which in turn, will increase Rice Lake water levels.
Throughout the coming days, the Otonabee Region Conservation Authority (ORCA) will continue its monitoring of current conditions and forecasts. This FLOOD WARNING will next be updated no later than 3:00 pm MONDAY, APRIL 30, 2018.
