Subject: FLOOD WARNING – UPDATE issued for the portion of the Trent-Severn Waterway within the geographical jurisdiction of Otonabee Conservation.
Issued to: Municipalities of Selwyn, Douro-Dummer, Asphodel-Norwood, Otonabee-South Monaghan, Cavan Monaghan, City of Kawartha Lakes, City of Peterborough and Trent Hills, and Otonabee Conservation’s other partners in flood emergency management.
This message is an update to the FLOOD WARNING issued earlier for the Tri-Lakes (Buckhorn Lake, Chemong Lake, Pigeon Lake), Lower Buckhorn Lake and Deer Bay, Lovesick Lake, Stony Lake, Clear Lake and Katchewanooka Lake, the Otonabee River, Rice Lake and the Trent River to Hastings.
Weather Forecast: As of Friday April 03rd, there is no significant rainfall expected during the next 4 days for both the Haliburton Lakes / Reservoir Lakes and Kawartha Lakes regions.
Kawartha Lakes, Otonabee River, Rice Lake and Trent River –In the Haliburton Lakes / Reservoir Lakes Region, warm air temperatures and wind have eased the rate of snowmelt runoff and increased the amount of snowmelt evaporation. As a result, the snowpack in this Region has been reduced by 50% over the past 5 days, and over the next 3 days, the inflow of water from the Haliburton Lakes / Reservoir Lakes into the Kawartha Lakes is expected to be slightly reduced.
The water levels on the Tri-Lakes will increase as the outflow from Buckhorn Dam is reduced. Water levels through the rest of the Kawartha Lakes downstream to Lake Katchewanooka will remain steady as the runoff from Mississauga, Nogies, Eels and Jack watersheds continues to flow into the Kawartha Lakes.
Water levels on the Otonabee River from Lakefield through Peterborough down to Rice Lake are expected to remain steady or slightly improve over the next 3 days. As a result, areas within the Otonabee Region watershed that have already been impacted by higher water levels / flows can expect to continue to experience these conditions over the next 3 days.
Otonabee Conservation advises all area residents and businesses occupying low-lying areas along the shores of the Kawartha Lakes, from the Tri-lakes downstream to Lake Katchewanooka, the Otonabee River, Rice Lake and the Trent River to Hastings to monitor and prepare for flooding.
Indian, Ouse and Otonabee River Watersheds (not including the Trent-Severn Waterway) – With no significant precipitation forecasted over the next 4 days, conditions are expected to continuously improve for these local rivers, streams and creeks (excluding the Trent-Severn Waterway).
This FLOOD WARNING message will next be updated no later than Monday, April 06, 2020 before 3 p.m.
