Subject: FLOOD WARNING – UPDATE issued for the portion of the Trent-Severn Waterway within the geographical jurisdiction of Otonabee Conservation.
Issued to: Municipalities of Selwyn, Douro-Dummer, Asphodel-Norwood, Otonabee-South Monaghan, Cavan Monaghan, City of Kawartha Lakes, City of Peterborough and Trent Hills, and Otonabee Conservation’s other partners in flood emergency management.
This message is an update to the FLOOD WARNING issued earlier for the Tri-Lakes (Buckhorn Lake, Chemong Lake, Pigeon Lake), Lower Buckhorn Lake and Deer Bay, Lovesick Lake, Stony Lake, Clear Lake and Katchewanooka Lake, the Otonabee River, Rice Lake and the Trent River to Hastings.
Weather Forecast: Starting today, Wednesday April 01st, there will be 4 straight days of warm weather and sunshine. Rain returns Saturday night, but the amount of expected rain is insignificant. This will then be followed by another 2 to 3 days of mostly clear skies.
Kawartha Lakes, Otonabee River, Rice Lake and Trent River –Warm air temperatures in both the Haliburton Lakes / Reservoir Lakes and Kawartha Lakes regions will cause continuous melting, which is of particular significance in Haliburton Lakes / Reservoir Lakes where there continues to be significant amounts of snow and ice. As a result of continued snowmelt in the Gull, Burnt, Mississauga, Nogies, Eels and Jack watersheds in this Region, water levels on the Kawartha Lakes, from the Tri-lakes downstream to Lake Katchewanooka, the Otonabee River, Rice Lake and the Trent River to Hastings, are expected to continue to rise over the next 48 to 72 hours, albeit slowly because the rate of rise will be tempered by the lack of rain falling on the snowpack in the Haliburton Lakes / Reservoir Lakes Region.
Areas within the Otonabee Region watershed that are already impacted by rising water levels / flows will experience slowly worsening conditions over the next 48 to 72 hours. Therefore, Otonabee Conservation advises all area residents and businesses occupying low-lying areas along the shores of the Kawartha Lakes, from the Tri-lakes downstream to Lake Katchewanooka, the Otonabee River, Rice Lake and the Trent River to Hastings to immediately prepare for flooding.
Indian, Ouse and Otonabee River Watersheds (not including the Trent-Severn Waterway) – With no significant precipitation expected in the next 6 to 7 days, conditions are expected to continuously improve for these local rivers, streams and creeks (excluding the Trent-Severn Waterway).
This FLOOD WARNING message will next be updated no later than Friday, April 03, 2020 before 3 p.m.
