FLOOD WARNING issued for that section of the Trent-Severn Waterway within the geographical jurisdiction of Otonabee Conservation.
Issued to: Municipalities of Selwyn, Douro-Dummer, Asphodel-Norwood, Otonabee-South Monaghan, Cavan Monaghan, City of Kawartha Lakes, City of Peterborough and Trent Hills, and Otonabee Conservation’s other partners in flood emergency management.
A FLOOD WARNING is now in effect for the Tri-Lakes (Buckhorn, Chemong and Pigeon), Lower Buckhorn Lake and Deer Bay, Lovesick Lake, Stony Lake, Clear Lake and Katchewanooka Lake, and the Otonabee River, Rice Lake and Trent River to Hastings.
Weather Forecast
Today, Monday March 30th, is expected to bring a total of 5 millimeters of precipitation to the Haliburton Lakes / Reservoir Lakes and the Kawartha Lakes regions, after which no precipitation is forecasted for the remainder of the week. However, this week will see air temperatures in the Haliburton Lakes / Reservoir Lakes and Kawartha Lakes regions causing continuous melting, which is of particular significance in the Haliburton Lakes / Reservoir Lakes region where there continues to be significant amounts of snow and ice.
Indian, Ouse and Otonabee River Watersheds (not including the Trent-Severn Waterway)
Currently there are high water levels in the Indian, Ouse and Otonabee River watersheds, and accumulations and ponding of water where there is poor drainage. With no precipitation expected in the foreseeable future, conditions are expected to continuously improve in our local rivers, streams and creeks (excluding the Trent-Severn Waterway) during the remainder of this week.
Kawartha Lakes, Otonabee River, Rice Lake and Trent River
As a result of continued spring thaw in the Haliburton Lakes / Reservoir Lakes region, water levels on the Kawartha Lakes, from the Tri-lakes downstream to Lake Katchewanooka, are expected to rise at a rate of approximately 4 to 5 centimeters per day. In accordance, water levels / flows on the Otonabee River, Rice Lake and the Trent River to Hastings will also increase. As a result, areas already impacted by rising water levels / flows will worsen, and flooding of low-lying areas not yet impacted is imminent. Therefore, Otonabee Conservation advises all area residents and businesses occupying low-lying areas along the shores of the Kawartha Lakes, from the Tri-lakes downstream to Lake Katchewanooka, the Otonabee River, Rice Lake and the Trent River to Hastings to immediately prepare themselves for flooding.
This FLOOD WARNING message will be updated no later than Wednesday, April 01, 2020 before 3 p.m.
