Visit a conservation area, trail, or nearby natural area on Earth Day 2023

Earth Day is this Saturday, April 22, 2023, an annual event that has become one of the largest environmental movements on the planet. On this day each year, people are encouraged to participate in actions that demonstrate support for environmental protection.
This year, Otonabee Conservation encourages people to get outside and visit local conservation areas, trails, parks, and nearby natural areas. For those who are interested in helping with spring clean-up activities at these areas, a Checklist for Earth Day Litter Cleanups is available.
Otonabee Conservation will not be hosting an Earth Day litter cleanup this year, but residents are encouraged to spread their love for the planet with family and friends, by cleaning up their yard, street, local park, or nearby natural area on Earth Day, or ANY day.
The Checklist for Earth Day Litter Cleanups provides residents with recommended safety tips for picking up litter, including safe pick up and removal of sharps/needles.
“Our local conservation areas, trails, and parks have seen increased visitation rates over the past several years. People are spending more time outside to get exercise, relieve stress, and enhance mental health,” shares Otonabee Conservation’s CAO, Janette Loveys Smith, “While we take care of ourselves by getting outdoors, we can also take care of the planet by helping to keep the outdoors free of litter and garbage.”
As always, residents accessing these areas are encouraged to take their garbage and dog waste bags home for disposal.
