Thank you for your patience as we rehabilitate the trail.

The derecho clean up commenced at Warsaw Caves Conservation Area on June 19th. Temporary closures for The Caves and The Caves Trail are expected to continue throughout the summer.

In May 2022 a derecho, a significant wind event, caused a great amount of damage throughout the Peterborough Region. After the storm, Warsaw Caves Conservation Area (C.A.) sustained infrastructure damage, fallen trees and limbs, and power outages.

A significant number of trees and limbs fell at several locations throughout the property at Warsaw Caves C.A., including along the Caves Trail, blocking access to the caves. At the time, Otonabee Conservation staff created a temporary alternate access route so that visitors could continue to enjoy spelunking and caving throughout the 2022 season.

Starting on June 19, arborists will be at work clearing out the downed trees and remediating The Caves Trail. While this work is being done, the caves and The Caves Trail will be closed to public access from Monday to Thursday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and will reopen after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays and for full days on weekends.

It is hopeful that the work will be completed by July 28th. The public will be notified once the work is completed and the trail is reopened.

Visitors are asked to obey all trail closure notices and to enjoy the many other amenities that Warsaw Caves C.A. has to offer including the Lookout Trail, Limestone Plains Trail, the beach, and canoe/kayak rentals.

Additional locations at Warsaw Caves C.A. will require remediation after sustaining damage during the 2022 derecho. Regular updates and closures will be posted on Facebook, Twitter and at otonabeeconservation.com.
