Close The Gap fundraising campaign aims to raise final $25,000 to complete the revitalization Jackson Creek Trail in Peterborough, Ontario
Over the past year, the Peterborough community raised over $45,000 through the Your Metres Matter fundraising campaign to resurface and repair points of erosion on the Jackson Creek Trail.
Construction along Jackson Creek Trail / Trans Canada Trail commenced this October with upgrades being made to the length of trail owned by Otonabee Conservation, which also includes bridge deck enhancements and railing replacements to three bridges along the trail. These revitalization efforts are making the Jackson Creek Trail suitable for a variety of trail users for walking, running, biking, skiing, and universal mobility access.
However, Otonabee Conservation must raise the final $25,000.00 to ensure benches, educational features, trail markers, and accessible wayfinding signs can be designed and installed once the trail bed is repaired and re-opens this December.
This giving season, Otonabee Conservation is encouraging trail users and outdoor enthusiasts to help close the gap on the remaining costs to complete these final important touches along The Jackson Creek Trail.
“As of November 1st, 2022, the community has raised $45,000 to resurface and repair points of erosion on The Jackson Creek Trail so that can be accessible and safe for all visitors. We are almost there, and we couldn’t have done this without such generous support from the community. Again this year, we encourage trail enthusiasts to consider a donation or a gift to the trail-lover on their holiday list so that we can close the gap on funding and complete the trail revitalization.”

Otonabee Conservation is a registered charity. Each donor will receive a tax receipt, photo card, sticker, and button to wear proudly while visiting the trail. Each donation of $100 or more will receive a multi-use Otonabee Conservation neck gaiter that can be worn as a bandana, scarf, neckerchief, hat, face covering, and more. A donation of $500+ dollars will be recognized on a new trailhead sign to be placed along the Trail.

Along with community donations, the revitalization of Jackson Creek Trail has been made possible with a $523,917 investment from the Government of Canada, through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF), with additional funding of over $60,000 from Trans Canada Trail.
