9. Is Beavermead Campground a Provincial Park?
1. Is the water in the campground safe?
Yes. Drinking water available in the campground is supplied by the City of Peterborough municipal drinking water system and is safe to drink.
2. Does Beavermead Campground have water/electrical hookups/trailer sites?
Beavermead Campground offers 18 un-serviced campsites, and 77 serviced campsites with 30 amp hydro and 50 amp hydro services, plus water hookup. We also have 18 un-serviced sites.
We do not offer sewage hookups, but there is a dumping station available for use of registered campers at no additional fee. Other users may make use of the dumping station for a fee of $18.00. Most of our campsites are large and level and are suitable for travel trailers, RV’s, and fifth wheels.
3. How many people/tents/cars can we have on a campsite?
In order to prevent overcrowding, we enforce reasonable limits on the number of people and vehicles that may use an individual campsite. We allow a maximum of 6 persons per campsite (a single family of parents and their children are not subject to the 6 person limit).
We do not place a limit on the number of tents you may have on a campsite. Only one trailer, RV, or other camping-purpose vehicle is permitted per campsite. Your camping permit includes parking for one vehicle. Any additional vehicles must have and display a vehicle permit (per car, per night). You may park up to two vehicles on your site as space allows.
Only spaces designated for camping or parking may be used for those purposes. You may not encroach on neighbouring sites, common areas, adjacent natural areas, or roadways/paths. Visitors may park their vehicles in the public parking lot just outside the campground.
4. What are the campground check in/check out times?
Our standard check out time for campers is noon and check in time is 2 p.m. Check in/check out times give us just enough time to tidy up and prepare for the next group of campers.
If you need to arrive a bit early or leave a bit late, please check with us beforehand. Call ahead of time or check with park staff at the gatehouse.
5. Can I bring my dog camping?
Yes, you can bring your dog to camp – after all, pets are part of the family! As a responsible pet owner you must respect the rules that apply to you and your dog during your visit. Dogs must at all times be on a leash not exceeding 2 metres in length. Beavermead Campground does not offer any leash-free areas.
Dogs are not permitted in swimming areas, on beaches or in any other area posted as off limits to dogs. Dogs are not permitted in the comfort station. Exemptions are in place for service dogs.
Do not leave your pet unattended. Dogs must be quiet and under control at all times and are not permitted to disturb other park visitors or campers, and should not be allowed to harass wildlife.
You are required to clean up after your pet – poop and scoop, please!
Similar rules apply to other types of pets. Only those pets that comply with City of Peterborough bylaws are permitted in the campground.
6. What is radio curfew and quiet time?
Noise can be a problem in a shared outdoor setting. To help ensure that everyone can enjoy their camping trip there are rules in place that prohibit excessive noise. These rules are clearly posted at the gatehouse and they are provided as part of the information you receive when you make a reservation.
10:00 p.m. is radio curfew and all radios must be turned off. This curfew also applies to musical instruments, any form of media player, and other sources of sound. After 10:00pm, you cannot make any sound that might disturb other campers.
In addition to enforcing these specific rules, staff may intervene at any time to limit noise that may disturb other campers or otherwise interfere with the enjoyment of the campground by other persons.
Please respect your fellow campers and park users.
7. Can I have a campfire?
A campfire is an important part of the camping experience and you’re welcome to enjoy a campfire at your campsite. A fire pit is available at each site. Ground fires are not permitted.
Peterborough Fire Services has a ban on open air burning within the City of Peterborough. They have provided a special exemption for Beavermead Campground due to our rules and enforcement procedures. Campfires are permitted between 5:00 pm and midnight.
Don’t leave your campfire unattended. Be sure to extinguish it when you leave your site or when your camping trip is done. No excessively large fires, please. And be careful with starter fluids and camp fuels. If you need help extinguishing your fire, contact the gatehouse and a park staff person will be able to assist.
Collecting firewood from the surrounding forest by foraging, or by cutting down or damaging trees (living or dead), is not permitted and can result in eviction from the campground. Firewood is available for sale at the gatehouse or can be purchased locally.
Note that there are restrictions in place on bringing firewood into the park as part of an effort to control the spread of invasive insect pests that can kill entire forests.
Patio-style torches are permitted so long as they are safely set up so that they won’t fall over into the adjoining woods or onto a tent.
Fireworks (including sparklers) are not permitted at any time.
Note that in extremely dry conditions the local fire department may impose a fire ban. Under a fire ban any use of open flame (campfires, solid fuel barbecues, torches, candles, etc.) is banned outright or severely restricted. When a fire ban is in effect it will be clearly posted throughout the park and staff can provide you with more detailed information.
Staff will also be on the grounds enforcing the conditions of the ban. Failure to comply with a fire ban can result in eviction from the campground.
8. Do you have an alcohol ban in place?
The use of alcohol is not allowed within the campground except in conjunction with the issuance of a camping permit.
The responsible use of alcohol is permitted only on your campsite as long as you hold a valid camping permit and respect all applicable laws and park regulations. The use of alcohol is not permitted anywhere else in the Beavermead Park, including but not limited to the beach, picnic areas, and the comfort station.
Any person using alcohol is responsible for their own conduct at all times. Inappropriate conduct related to the use of alcohol, including but not limited to disruptive behaviour, operation of a motor vehicle under the influence, open alcohol in a vehicle, open alcohol off a campsite, underage consumption, etc. will not be tolerated. This may result in the withdrawal of a camping permit(s) and the eviction from the campground or, when necessary, a call to the police.
